Use the information in the table to help you complete the tasks needed to pay your employees and update their records. Steps marked with an asterisk (*) must be completed before you can save the information.

Step Description

Check that the process date is set to the date you're paying your employees.

How? Click Payroll > Change Process Date. Need more help? See Checking your processing date.

You can clear the previous payment information from the Enter Payments window.

How? Select the relevant employees > Payroll > Reset Payments. Need more help? See Reset payments.

Before paying your employees it's a good idea to run a check on the information in your software to highlight anything unusual or inconsistent.

How? From the toolbar > Health Check. Need more help? See Checking information in your software.

Enter your employee payments for this pay period.

How? Select the employees you want to pay > Payroll > Enter Payments. Need more help? See Paying employees.

Produce your payslips and any other pre-update reports you require.

How? Select the employees to appear on the report > Payroll > Pre-update Reports. Need more help? See Using Reports.

Back up your payroll data before updating your records. If you discover something has gone wrong, you can restore this data.

How? File > Backup > follow the steps in the Backup Wizard. Need more help? See Backing up your payroll information.

Update the records in your software when you have finished entering all of your employees' pay details for the current payroll period, and checked all payments and reports for accuracy

Post the salary details from your software directly to Sage Accounts or to a file.

Use the e-Banking option to create payment files that can be used by your online banking service to make payments electronically.

Print the P32 report at the end of the tax month so you can see the payments due to HMRC.

Process records for any employees who have left your employment during this pay period.
